Top Ten Tuesday #9: Books I Would Love To See As A Movie/TV Show

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly Top Ten list hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today we'll do Top Ten Books I Would Love To See As A Movie/TV Show (set in a perfect world...in which movies don't butcher the books we love). It's a bit similar to the TTT where we listed the best/worst movie adaptations in July but now we get to dream of a perfect world insted. We've all seen some really good and some horribly disastrous movie adaptations. I, for instance, loved the Hunger Games, but think they completely ruined The Mortal Instruments.

Sometimes when I read a book I can think that "Hey, this would make an awesome movie", then there are also great books that I think would be really hard to make into a movie that can make the book justice. A book that mostly take place in the main character's head or that has a lot of complex thoughts or emotions could, in my opinion, be one of those books. An books-goes-TV-show is pretty much a disaster in all cases but Game of Thrones. I got caught by The Nine Lives of Chloe King on TV, it only ran for one season but I had to know the rest of the story. Imagine my surprise when the only similarities between the books and TV show was the names of the characters and the supernatural details. The books were good, but I still didn't get to know how the TV show would have continued.

With that in mind I'll list ten book I really, really would like to see in a movie theater (That aren't already in production that I know of...)

In no particular order:

1. Vampire Academy series by Michelle Read or Covenant Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
As books they share similar themes but are still vastly different, but I think that as movies they'd be targeting the same audience a bit too much and not be different enough. Both of them have a female heroine who's a bit out out of the loop and needs to be brought up to speed on the current curriculum by a seriously hot instructor, who's also forbidden fruit. The heroine in question is a I'm-always-right-and-do-it-my-way kinda girl who's fierce to a fault, love it, and with the right casting can make a great role model to girls of all ages. Anyway, I don't really mind which one of them make it to the big screen, as long as one of them do!

Edit: Lucky us! VA premiers February 14th, 2014. They've even released the first trailer!

2. Split by Swati Avasthi

This book touched me like very few books has and I mention it left and right whenever I can. It was featured in last week's TTT for example. But it is an amazing and heart wrenching book and it would make an exceptional movie that would have me crying buckets. The way it approaches abuse and the life when you've gotten out is astonishing.

3. The Selection by Kiera Cass
America is from one of the lowest castes of society but is chosen as one of the thirty-five suitors of Prince Maxon, while she's at the castle her family get's paid good money and she vows to stay as long as possible in the competition to save her family and the boy she left behind. This is a sweet love story with a bit of a love triangle and with some adrenaline filled scenes thrown in the mix. A fantastic book and a would-be perfect Friday night chick flick.

4. Something Like Normal by Trish Doller
A broken man coming back from Afghanistan, without his best friend, finds solace in a girl he never really got along with. He suffers from PTSD but she seems to know exactly what he needs and with her he can begin to heal. This is a movie I'd definitley pay good money to see.

5. Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter
Another love triangle and an amazing female main character. A paranormal movie about a girl girl who's different in a I-cured-my-friends-cancer-kinda way and featuring a stubborn vampire, a peace-meddling witch, a smoking hot half-fae and an irresistible werewolf. What's not to love?

6. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

An innocent looking girl who's touch kills could be the world's most powerful weapon, right? Yeah, that's what the big war mogul thinks. Juliette just want to be free, and to be loved. This book has gotten quite the attention in the blogosphere, and for good reasons. I'd looove to see this as a movie!

7. Taking Chances by Molly McAdams
You regulars know that I am quite emotional when I read and experience a whole lot of emotions when I go through a book. But never have I cried so hard as I did when reading Taking Chances, just thinking about it now makes my eyes tear up. It is so incredibly beautiful and I would love to cuddle up on the couch with box of tissues to watch this on a rainy day.

8. Embrace by Jessica Shirvington
A girl is thrown into a world she didn't even know existed, suddenly she's half-angel and learning how to fight for her life. Again, a strong, stubborn female lead and hot forbidden-fruit instructor. I sense a theme here... However, this is a really good series and I think it would translate rather well in to a moving picture.

9. Stray by Rachel Vincent
Aah, the Shifter series. I've read this six book series cover to cover more times than I can remember. A female main character who fights for her rights as a woman and who's tired of rules and the constant babying. She's incredible and don't crack under pressure, and believe me, she's definitely put to the test. This as a movie - I wouldn't leave the TV.

10. Here be Sexist Vampire
This probably features the bitchiest badass on the list. Not only is she female, she's also what's considered the lesser breed of vampires. Not the best conditions if she's gonna lead an army. Good thing she can put her cocky co-commander on his ass at any time. She's got a sharp tongue and a sharper whip. Not the kinky kind, but the kind you conjure out of thin air. That kind. If I ever had to do a list of favorite female characters, Alex would no doubt top that list.

  3. I know! The trailer is a bit weird though. Either there a LOT I don't remember from the book or it doesn't follow the book very well.

  4. Cool choices! I was wondering what happened to Nine Lives. I didn't watch it, but would always see commercials.... and then it was like *poof* no more. I need to read Split.... it's been on my TBR for FAR too long!

  5. When I watched the last episode I was like, Woah, it can't end like this. And then I started franticly looking for the next season. Never to be found, it sucked. Split is awesome, definitely one of my top ten favorites. And that says something, I have more than 150 book on my Favorites list.
